Sofía Vergara revealed during a recent interview one of the reasons she and fellow Hollywood actor Joe Manganiello got divorced.
The 51-year-old “Modern Family” star said she doesn’t want to have any more children but Manganiello, who is 47, did want kids.
“My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom,” Vergara told Spanish newspaper El País, per People. “I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”
Vergara shares a 32-year-old son, Manolo, with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez. Manganiello has no children and had never been married prior to tying the knot with Vergara in 2015.
“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother. So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children,” the “Griselda” star continued.
“I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things,” she said. “When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”
Vergara and Manganiello announced in July that they were getting divorced, citing “irreconcilable differences” when filing the paperwork.
“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect for our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” they shared in a joint statement at the time. Both Hollywood stars have since been linked romantically with other people.

Vergara has been in the headlines for years as she battles her ex-fiance, Nick Loeb, over the custody of embryos they had created through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). The actress is adamant about the embryos never being born, but Loeb argues that they are human beings and should not be destroyed.
“I never would have gone forward with creating what Sofia and I regarded as lives if I knew that she would not consent, or that she wanted to thaw and destroy the embryos, in the event of a breakup,” Loeb said in April 2023, per Los Angeles Magazine. He also said Vergara once claimed to having the same beliefs.
“I am pro-life and pro-parenthood and my religious views are such that I believe that life begins at conception,” he told the outlet. “Throughout the course of our relationship, I expressed these views to Sofia, who similarly expressed to me that she was a devout Catholic and therefore also believed that life begins at conception. She told me that she regarded embryos as ‘lives.’”
