Donald Trump Jr. revealed at a campaign event in Montana this week that the godson of Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) allegedly told him that the 67-year-old senator became a different person after being elected and quit being involved in his life after he went to Washington, D.C.
Trump Jr. made the remarks at the “Protecting Freedom” event in Missoula on Sunday, which was attended by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte(R), Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy.
The former president’s eldest son said that he was speaking with his friend Josh Smith, co-founder of the Montana Knife Company, about Tester when Smith told him that Tester was his godfather growing up.
Trump Jr., who said that Smith gave him permission to share his story and use his name, revealed that Smith indicated that everything with Tester “changed” after he got elected and that he did not consider Tester family anymore.
“He goes, the problem is essentially, he was the meat cutter, yada, yada, yada 25 years ago. That’s what he did and that’s who he was and he did that stuff. He was school teacher,” Trump Jr. said. “And then he went to D.C. and everything changed. So that Montana meat cutter became the number one recipient of lobbyist dollars in all of Washington. Think about that, doesn’t strike me as the thing that a humble school teacher, meat cutter from Montana would be — the number one recipient of lobbyist dollars.”
Trump Jr. said that despite supposedly being a “moderate,” Tester votes in lockstep with President Joe Biden’s “radical” left-wing agenda.
Smith said that he hasn’t seen Tester in roughly seven years and that he never stops by to visit anymore.
“[Tester] Got enveloped by the swamp, he became what happens so much in D.C.,” Trump Jr. said. “I mean, there’s a saying in DC that the swamp is undefeated. That’s because it does do a good job turning good people into bad people, corrupting them entirely. But that’s where you are in Montana.”

Trump Jr. told Sheehy that he would likely be outspent 10-to-1 in his upcoming race against Tester, which recent polling from late last month has shown Sheehy is leading.
