Princess Beatrice’s ex-boyfriend Paolo Liuzzo was reportedly found dead inside a Florida hotel room from a suspected drug overdose.
Miami police were called to Liuzzo’s room at the citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel at 3:22 p.m. on February 7, according to the Sun.
He was pronounced dead 12 minutes later.
Liuzzo’s death is being investigated as an “overdose death”, police told the outlet.
His body was transported from Miami, Fla., back to his native, Long Island, NY, where a funeral was held on Feb 16.
The Italian-native kickstarted a romance with Princess Beatrice in 2005 when she was 17 and he was 24.
The pair’s romance was approved by her parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson after they invited him to join the family on a skiing vacation in Verbier, Switzerland.
At the time, the Duchess of York shared that she supported her daughter’s romance despite their age gap.
“We all have our own journeys and have to learn our way but Beatrice is a sensible girl, soon to be 18, with many friends, including Paolo,” she said in a public statement at the time.
Before his romance with the Princess, Liuzzo was charged with the manslaughter of Jonathan R. Duchatellier, a fellow student at the College of the Holy Cross, after they got into a drunken fistfight.
His charge was later reduced to assault and battery and he served 100 hours of community service.
However, when his romance with Beatrice became public fodder, he was sent back to the US for violating his three-year probation, which was extended by six months.
Liuzzo, thought to have inherited his fortune from his dad, was employed as an art industry consultant at the time of his death. He resided close to the hotel where he reportedly died, the outlet adds.
Beatrice, 35, has not yet commented on Liuzzo’s death.
In 2009, Liuzzo, who reportedly never married, had yet another run-in with the law after crashing his rental car in Australia’s Gold Coast.
He was later arrested and charged with fraud and cocaine possession after attempting to dine and dash at a casino.

Beatrice, for her part, wed entrepreneur Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020. The pair share a 2-year-old daughter named Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi.
Mozzi also shares son Christopher “Wolfie” Woolf, 6, with former girlfriend Dara Huang.
Liuzzo’s death comes just weeks after Pippa Middleton‘s ex-boyfriend Thomas Kingston died at age 45.
The royal family member, who was married to Lady Gabriella Windsor, died from a gunshot wound to the head on Feb. 25.
