Jim Harbaugh has another playmaker in his backfield.
The Chargers are bringing on former Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins on a one-year contract, according to his agency on Wednesday.
“Let’s do it #LaVuelta,” Dobbins wrote on X with a light blue heart emoji.
Dobbins missed all but one game last year after he suffered an Achilles tear during a Week 1 matchup with the Texans.
He now will pair up with former Ravens teammate Gus Edwards, who signed a two-year deal with Los Angeles earlier this offseason as Austin Ekeler departed the team for a deal with the Commanders.
Dobbins, a second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2020, burst onto the scene during his rookie season in Baltimore with 805 rushing yards and nine touchdowns to go along with 120 receiving yards.
But since then, Dobbins has battled injuries, which have sidelined him for the bulk of the last three years.
In 2021, he torn ACL in the last preseason game of the season, which kept him out of the whole year.
Knee issues again limited him in 2022, as he was kept to eight games, rushing for 520 yards and two touchdowns before the Achilles tear this past season.
When he has played, however, Dobbins has been a spark, averaging 5.8 yards per attempt.
If Dobbins and Edwards can remain healthy, they should help improve a backfield that finished 25th in the NFL in rushing at 96.6 yards per game in 2023.
After finishing 5-12 last year, Los Angeles has the fifth overall pick int he 2024 NFL Draft as it looks to bounce back under Harbaugh’s leadership.
Though Harbaugh lost Ekeler to Washington and receiver Mike Williams to the Jets, there is hope that with the two new running backs in the fold — plus a healthy Justin Herbert — that he can get the Chargers back on track to success in the AFC West.
