Teen accused of shoving Queens grandmother down church steps attempts suicide at NYPD precinct

The teen boy busted for allegedly shoving a 68-year-old woman down the steps of Queens church – callously snatching her purse and escaping in her car – attempted to take his own life inside a Queens police precinct Friday, law enforcement sources said.

Jayvaun Prince, 16 – who was locked up Thursday on robbery, grand larceny and other raps in connection to the Sunday attack on regular churchgoer Irene Tahliambouris on the front steps of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Briarwood – took his shirt off and wrapped it around his neck inside the 107th Precinct station house, the sources said.

He was not injured, the sources said.

Prince has also been charged with robbing another woman inside a Jamaica, Queens apartment building and then fleeing in her car on April 4, according to the sources.

His arraignment is expected Friday night inside the youth part of Queens Criminal Court, according to a DA’s office rep.

“The viciousness with which the defendant is accused of having committed the robbery at the church struck the city at its core,” Queens DA Melinda Katz said in a statement.  “As alleged, he chose to rob an elderly woman by first pushing her down the stairs and then proceeded to take her purse and leave her to suffer while he took off in her car. He will now have to answer for the serious charges levied against him by my Office.”

“Thank you to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny and the entire Detective Bureau for their relentless work.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
