A 10-year-old boy was rescued after he got himself stuck in the chimney on the roof of his Massachusetts home Wednesday, according to local reports.
The boy climbed out of a second-floor window and got up onto the roof of his home in Whitman, about 25 miles south of Boston, around 4:15 p.m., a spokesperson with the town’s fire department told WCVB.
The boy then lowered himself into the top of the chimney and was unable to free himself, officials said.
Crews from the Whitman Fire Department were able to quickly extricate the child from the chimney. He was uninjured.
The boy’s relieved father said he was at work when he got a phone call from his other son, who said he watched his brother climb up on the roof.
The dad immediately phoned 911 and rushed home. But by the time he arrived the boy had already been freed and was back on the ground.
Photos shot at the scene by Boston25 News show firefighters on the roof prying the boy from the chimney, where he appeared to be stuck from the waist down. His hands also appeared to be trapped.
A man can be seen hugging the boy outside the home.
