Heart-pounding video captured the moment a giant wave swept a girl off a seawall in Australia and into the rough water below – with her father immediately jumping in to rescue her.
The unidentified toddler and her dad are seen scampering along the wind-swept wall amid crashing waves in North Wollongong when one of them knocked her off her feet, heart-stopping footage posted by 7NEWS shows.
Her dad then jumps over the railing and tumbles headfirst into the water as onlookers cry out in horror.
The clip then shows him clutching onto his daughter for dear life as he desperately fights to keep them both afloat in the torrent amid the rocks as bystander three buoys.
Meanwhile, a rescue helicopter also was rushed to the scene.
Despite the frightening ordeal, both of them made it out relatively unscathed, according to the reports.
One of the people who rushed to help the duo was David Graham, who told 7NEWS that the dad was exhausted “but he never let go of that kid” until they were pulled out.
Another bystander was Melinda Graham, who tried to console the girl’s “hysterical” mother.
The dad and daughter were taken to Wollongong Hospital, where they were treated for minor wounds and ingestion of some water, a spokesperson for New South Wales Ambulance told the Daily Mail.
It incident comes a few weeks after a 62-year-old British man was killed in the northern Spain village of San Esteban de Pravia when a storm swell swept him out to sea during a trip with his wife.
