NBC has canceled Quantum Leap after two seasons, according to Deadline.
The news arrives more than a month after the two-hour Season 2 finale aired on February 20.
The series served as a follow-up to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula (who played Dr. Samuel John Beckett) and Dean Stockwell. The 2022 version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, who attempts to restart the Quantum Leap project but ends up being trapped in the lives of different people in the past just like Beckett.
Song “leaps” to different lives in an effort to get home while trying to fix what went wrong in each of the lives along the way.
Aside from Lee, Quantum Leap also starred Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee.
The series was created by Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, who also served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio and Gero and Georgaris served as co-showrunners.
Lee posted a farewell reaction on Instagram today upon news of the show’s cancellation.
Quantum Leap first premiered on NBC in September 2022. It was renewed for a second season in December of that year. Season 2 premiered in October 2023.
NBC recently announced that it had renewed Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Law & Order, and Law & Order: SVU for the 2024-2025 season, but Quantum Leap didn’t make the cut. A decision has not yet been made regarding Law & Order: Organized Crime starring Christopher Meloni.
Freshman dramas Found and The Irrational were renewed for second seasons back in November.
