United Airlines flight returns to German airport due to broken toilet

This flagrant situation wasn’t going to fly.

A United Airlines flight abruptly turned around when a broken toilet sent contents of a waste tank flowing into the passenger cabin, according to a report.

United Flight 59 took off from Frankfurt, Germany Friday afternoon and was supposed to land in San Francisco before it made the U-turn a couple of hours into the trip, German outlet Bild reported.

The content of at least one of the toilets was pushed up from the tank and overflowed, the publication reported.

While the flight crew attempted to figure out if the problem on the Boeing 777 could be fixed, the plane circled over the North Sea before finally returning to the Frankfurt Airport, according to Bild.

“On Friday, March 29, United Flight 59 returned to Frankfurt following a maintenance issue with one of the aircraft’s lavatories,” a United Airlines spokesperson told the US Sun.

Passengers were given hotel rooms for the night and rebooked on other flights the following day, the spokesperson told the outlet.

The Post has reached out for comment from the airline.

United has had a string of troubling incidents in recent weeks, including on Friday when several passengers on a flight from Israel to Newark were hospitalized after the plane was forced to divert to New York’s Stewart International Airport in Orange County because of high winds.

Earlier in March, a Japan-bound United flight that took off from San Francisco was diverted to LAX because the Boeing plane lost a tire after taking off.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby recently attempted to reassure flyers that the airline carrier was safe amid the numerous issues.

“Safety is our highest priority and is at the center of everything we do,” Kirby said in a letter sent to United customers earlier this month. “Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, our airline has experienced a number of incidents that are reminders of the importance of safety.”
