Gisele Bündchen, for the first time, addressed speculation that she cheated on Tom Brady before the power couple’s divorce, stating definitively that she did not while claiming that people wondering if she stepped out were doing so because she’s a woman.
“That is a lie,” Bündchen said in an interview with the New York Times about whether she cheated on her ex-husband.
Bündchen reportedly began dating her jiu-jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente in June 2023; she and Brady announced their divorce in October 2022.
“I really don’t want to make my life a tabloid,” Bündchen said. “I don’t want to open myself up to all of that.”
The Brazilian supermodel, 43, took aim at those who were feeding the rumor mill about her split with Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
“This is something that happens to a lot of women who get blamed when they have the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and are labeled as being unfaithful,” Bündchen said in the interview. “They have to deal with their communities. They have to deal with their family. Of course, for me, it just happens to be a little bit amplified.”
She added, speaking generally about couples, that “no one really knows what happens between two people, only the two people in the relationship.”
Bündchen and Valente were spotted having dinner together in November 2022, weeks after she and Brady revealed their divorce.
Brady reportedly thinks Bündchen and Valente became involved with one another before the divorce.
“If she wants to have people think she has been dating Joaquim only since June, so be it, but they have been together longer and they aren’t taking it slow. Tom has accepted it,” an insider claimed to the Daily Mail last month.
Bündchen confirmed to the Times that she is dating someone but didn’t mention Valente’s name.
“This is the first time I am seeing someone that was a friend of mine first,” she said. “It’s very different. It is very honest, and it’s very transparent.”
