The Issue: The overrunning of the El Paso border crossing by a group of over 100 illegal immigrants.
Illegal immigrants are forcing their way into our country and overrunning federal agents and Texas National Guardsmen (“Spring break-in at Texas fence,” March 22).
There is, however, not a word from President Biden. Yet when he previously saw border agents with whips for their horses, he accused them of whipping migrants, which was simply not true.
Needless to say, we know which side of the fence this administration is on.

If this incompetent leader of the free world gets re-elected, those who vote for him deserve what will eventually befall them.
Shame on him for allowing this catastrophe to occur.
Jerry Chiappetta, Monticello
How can security be maintained when nobody is being detained for the crime of illegally crossing into our country?
The images of people storming and overrunning the security measures are shocking but predictable, given that the Biden administration created a crisis.
What is so confusing is how so many Democrats try to rationalize it — or blame Republicans.
Greg Raleigh, Washington D.C.
Close to 100 illegal migrants bum-rushed the National Guard, even knocking down servicemen to gain entry at the El Paso border crossing. Not even armed guards could stop the surge.
Maybe they feared Biden’s false accusations of cruelty, as he once accused the Border Patrol of whipping migrants.
Every effort should be made to find and arrest these lawbreakers, as Biden’s Justice Department did in finding and arresting the Jan. 6, 2021 rioters.
Joseph Valente, Staten Island
After Jan. 6, 2021, protesters were arrested and thrown in jail.
On March 21, 2024 illegal immigrant invaded the US border. Why weren’t they arrested and thrown in jail?
Robert Leavy, Middle Village
I saw the video of the illegal immigrants breaking through razor wire at the border.
These are foreigners who are invading our country, all while border officials are yelling at them to stop.

The Issue: Mayor Adams’ request that the United Federation of Teachers help recruit new educators.
Mayor Adams is a sad example of a person who has zero policy chops (“UFT ‘hire power,’ ” March 20).
He pretends not to see how his COVID-19 vaccine drama set in motion the current staff shortages and mayhem in public schools. And this week, he is whining about that very teacher shortage.
Is he too daft to see that his improper termination of 1,400-plus mostly tenured teachers in February 2022 caused the shortage he is now whining about?
As one of the tenured educators he removed, I can tell you that New York schools are a rank disaster, filled with violence and mayhem.
Adams also absurdly suggests that the UFT can help, even though the UFT threw me and other educators under the bus.
Diane Pagen, Brooklyn
Adams is like the schoolyard bully who makes fun of classmates then wonders why no one wants to play with him.
And the UFT is no better. There are more than 1,400 unvaccinated educators that Adams forced out two years ago, and now he wants help to replace us with others, so he doesn’t have to hire us back with backpay.
This is a slap in the face of every fired New York teacher.
