The Cinderella Oakland Golden Grizzlies put up a big fight, but they’re not going to be headed to the Sweet 16.
DJ Burns led No. 11-seed North Carolina State to a 79-73 overtime victory over 14th-seeded Oakland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday night in Pittsburgh.
It’s the first time in nine years that North Carolina State, who outscored Oakland 13-7 in the overtime, has reached the Sweet 16.
Oakland, who pulled of a massive upset of third-seeded Kentucky, were led by Trey Townsend who scored 30 points.
Oakland sharpshooter Jack Gohlke, who scored a career-high 32 points on 10 3-pointers in its first-round win over the Wildcats, scored 22 points in defeat.
He had six 3-pointers.
