Rubio says he hasn’t heard from anyone in ‘Trump world’ about possible VP consideration

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said Thursday that he hadn’t heard from anyone in former President Trump’s orbit about being his vice-presidential pick.

“I think anybody who would be offered that should be honored, but I’ve never spoken to anybody in the Trump world about it,” Rubio said in a clip from NBC News NOW’s “Meet the Press NOW.”

In the clip, Rubio was also asked if he had spoken to Trump about being his possible running mate pick, to which the Florida Republican responded that he hadn’t talked to the former president or “anybody in his campaign” about it.

NBC News has reported that Rubio has been rising in the ranks as a possible running mate for Trump, according to six people familiar with the former president’s hunt for a vice presidential pick.

In late February, Trump confirmed that figures including Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) and former Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat, are all being considered as a possible vice-presidential pick.

Rubio, a former rival of Trump in the 2016 race to become the GOP presidential nominee, threw his support behind Trump’s 2024 White House bid in January.

“When Trump was in [the White House] I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us,” Rubio wrote in a post on X.

“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster [President Biden] has created. It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!” he continued.

The Hill has reached out to former President Trump’s campaign.
