The snowy weather in New York City meant a smaller and relatively younger studio audience at Live with Kelly and Mark this morning.
Co-host Kelly Ripa noticed “a lot of staff children in the audience today” among the audience’s mere 49 ticketed members, likely due to the inclement weather.
Mark Consuelos echoed his wife and co-host later on in their chat, noting that “a lot of kids [are] out of school.”
“We got a couple backstage, they’re so happy,” he shared.
Toward the end of their host chat, Ripa and Consuelos began introducing upcoming segments, including the “Love Inbox,” which shows them reading the love stories sent in by viewers in honor of Live‘s Love Week. However, Ripa wasn’t so sure as to whether this was a good idea with so many children around.
“There’s a lot of kids here today. Do we want to read this filth on the air?” she quipped.
Consuelos chimed in, “In front of little James there? Are we gonna read it in front of James?”
The camera then panned to a little boy sitting in the studio. As the audience began to aww, Ripa eventually cut the cuteness with an awkward reality check.
“Sean?” she asked, seemingly correcting Consuelos.
Consuelos immediately amended his greeting, exclaiming, “Sean! Hi, Sean!”
Ripa added, “I was like, who’s James?”
Consuelos’ slip-up didn’t completely come out of thin air. It turns out that Sean’s father is named James, as noted by a Live employee off-camera, presumably his mother.
“Well, his dad was responsible,” Consuelos teased. “So, Sean. Sorry Sean!”
After some giggling, Ripa eased the awkwardness by transitioning back to the topic at hand.
“Yeah, we’re gonna have to pick some clean ones because some of these inbox items are pretty steamy,” she said.
This isn’t Consuelos’ first notable name flub. He botched the pronunciation of “Stump Mark” contestant Tabitha as “Ta-bath-a” earlier this month. Still, we have to cut the man some slack — it’s his first year as co-host, after all.
