8 Law Enforcement Officers Shot Serving Warrant At Home

Eight law enforcement officials were shot on Monday while serving a warrant at a home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The shooting happened in the area of the 5000 block of Galway Drive when the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, which is comprised of several agencies, was serving a warrant. A SWAT team was dispatched the scene to help get control of the situation.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings said that of the eight who were shot, four were with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and four with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, according to WBTV.

The report stated that three were killed, including one who was a federal agent with the U.S. Marshals. One of the five who was injured is a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer who is listed in critical condition.

“We are very early in the investigation,” he added. “CMPD will lead this investigation, we still have a lot to uncover, a lot of questions that are not answered right now.”

Police said that the scene was clear on Monday evening that the public around the area no longer needed to shelter in place.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that at least one shooting suspect was killed at the scene.

Two other individuals who were in the home were being questioned by law enforcement officials.

The New York Post reported that law enforcement was serving a warrant “for a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.”

“The bravery of our officers that responded to the scene, knowing that they’re going into gunfire is what I’ve been saying for many years, is in the face of danger, our people step up,” Jennings said, adding that this was “the most tragic [shooting] that I’ve been involved in.”

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper posted on X: “Our hearts are with the families and co-workers of officers in today’s brutal attack, including two state Department of Adult Correction officers working with the US Marshal’s Task Force who were shot and killed.”
