47 percent in new poll opposed to Biden impeachment inquiry

Nearly half of Americans are against House Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into President Biden, while slightly more oppose a full impeachment of the president, according to a new poll.

A new survey from Navigator Research — a Democratic research firm — found 47 percent of Americans oppose an impeachment inquiry into Biden, while 40 percent support it and 13 percent are unsure.

The level of opposition is notably higher among Democrats, with 81 percent of respondents in the party against the inquiry and just 10 percent backing it.

Republicans hold the opposite sentiment, with 14 percent against the inquiry and 76 percent for it.

When it comes to the full impeachment of Biden, just over half, or 53 percent, oppose it, 38 percent support it and 9 percent are not sure.

The same share — 81 percent — of Democrats oppose the full impeachment, with 10 percent in support and 9 percent unsure. Republicans are more evenly split on a full impeachment, with 41 percent in opposition and 36 in support.

The House GOP formalized its impeachment inquiry into Biden last month with hopes it will add legal weight to their probe. The inquiry is centered around allegations Biden was involved in corrupt business deals, though even many Republicans concede they have yet to uncover evidence to justify impeachment.

The inquiry has followed months-long investigations by the House’s Judiciary, Oversight and Ways and Means committees looking into the Biden family finances.

The probe has so far not produced any direct evidence implicating the president in a crime, but has sparked further investigations into his son, Hunter Biden. The younger Biden currently faces criminal charges in two separate tax evasion and firearms cases.

The survey was conducted by Global Strategy Group among 1,000 registered voters from Jan. 4-8. Additional interviews were conducted among different demographic groups and independent voters.
