2024 March Madness odds: College basketball championship update

February is approaching. Let the madness commence.

Conference tournaments and March Madness 2024 are rapidly approaching as the calendar turns to February and the football season winds down.

There’s still plenty of time before we talk about seedings, but for now the Purdue Boilermakers (+800) are the consensus favorites to cut down the nets after the men’s March Madness College Basketball championship.

Further down the oddsboard is the North Carolina Tar Heels, who are atop the ACC with an 8-0 conference record.

Coach Hubert Davis’ group has been trending in the right direction, having opened at 30/1 on BetMGM Sportsbook.

They are now down to 16/1, thanks to their hot start.

The defending national champion and No. 1 UConn Huskies (17-2) are playing some excellent basketball as well, boasting a win over North Carolina and a slim victory against St John’s.

There will be obvious hesitation to bet on Purdue as the Boilermakers got smashed as a No. 1 seed opposite No. 16 Farleigh Dickinson last season.

The board is wide open and many bettors are, in fact, fading the favored Boilermakers.

John Calipari’s Kentucky Wildcats are the highest liability at BetMGM, garnering 18.6 percent of the action on this market.

The sixth-ranked Wildcats suffered a 79-62 road setback against South Carolina earlier this week, but big Zvonimir Ivisic was recently cleared to join the team.
